Hey all!
I think it's awesome that there is a snow leopard group in LJ. I am a student in Canada (graduating this year) who loves to draw (http://hiroakzu-bw.deviantart.com/ this is my website on DA) but drawing is not going to be my career. I love watching and drawing snow leopards and I've come to a point to be able to find myself in love with the animal (I love other animals too).
Anyways, I am glad that I've found a place just for snow leopard discussions, =3

Happy to have found this group, even though it seems pretty quiet. I've been studying shamanism for a few years now, and work a lot with a snow leopard in "non-ordinary-reality". It's amazing how close one can get to these animals. In honor of this, I have donated money off and on to the Snow Leopard Trust, and gave my family a (virtual) snow leopard family adoption for the holidays a couple of years ago. I'm now proudly a member of Team Snow Leopard, and look forward to reading the newsletters. I cried for hours over the loss of Longtail/Bayartai.

Thank you so much for the work you do!!

Honoring a Conservation Hero: Helen Freeman

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Freeman (1932-2007), longtime advocate of snow leopard conservation and founder of the Snow Leopard Trust.

View a slide show of Helen's many contributions to saving snow leopards. Listen to Helen describe the development of the Snow Leopard Trust in Saving Snow Leopards for 25 Years.

In lieu of flowers, the Freeman family suggests donations to the Snow Leopard Trust in memory of Helen.

snow leopards cubs!
so i had the pleasure of going to The Toronto Zoo last week-end to see the wee 2 month old cubs that reside there...and oh! are they the most adorable creatures i have ever seen :)

i have added a section to my personal site about the cubs and their parents - photos & videos can be found on the site :)

for those interested, click here to see! :)

this is a video of Coda, the snow leopard at The Toronto Zoo. His zoo keeper was at the exhibit, and had just fed him, so he was feeling rather playful - which opted for an extremely cute video :)

snow leopard cubs at The Toronto Zoo!!!
so my husband and i went to the zoo yesterday, and upon visiting my favorite exhibit, i was concerned to see the female snow leopard separated from her mate.
the male (Coda) was in the exhibit itself, and the female (Tigga) was locked away from him in the cage.
this concerns me because i know how much these two adore each other, i always see them grooming each other and snuggling.
my first thought was...maybe she's pregnant?

so i went to find a zoo keeper, who wasn't sure why either - and also figures that could be the only reason why they were separated: pregnancy!.
she told me to ask guest services on my way out if they knew what was going on. so i did. ;)
this really friendly girl paged the snow leopard's zoo keeper and asked why they were separated and if the female was in fact pregnant. he replied "she's not pregnant...anymore! she just gave birth!"

cue me and the girl jumping up and down and smiling and giggling happily :)

so yes...snow leopard cubs!!!!
as soon as i hear any official news i will let you all know :):):)

Hello and good day I have recently joined on Live journal and was browsing and found this site. I am new here as well as on Live journal. I think this is a good way to spared awareness of the snow leopard's life.
I am too a "furry" or a snow leopard trapped in a humans body. Only you do not find many around where I live so I hope to find others like me here.
Thank you for your time.

By the way my user name means Snow Leopard

*waves* Hi, also another new leopard joining the masses!
My fur, White Noise, isn't exactly a snow leopard, but a slight variation if that still counts. =3
I still think they are some of the most beautiful creatures ever (and if I had the money to spare, I'd gladly adopt one, or two, or three... hehe).
Anyway, just saying hi and letting y'all know another has joined the ranks!

Save the wolf sanctuary
I know this is another unrelated link, but I think it is important. If you can help, please do. Also, please spread this around as much as possible.

Something disheartening
I'm sorry to have to share this with you, but it needs to be seen.

I've crossposted this in my LJ pardouncia for maximum exposure. I ask that you spread the word.

It would seem that we don't have many posts here. We need to try to get this community going. The whole point of this is to bring awereness of the snow leopard to more people and try and help them around the world. I know that recent posts, though rather old now, don't specifically have to do with snow leopards, but these things need to be known. So as the mod of this community I don't mind such things. Just as long as there is a primary focus on snow leopards. Now let's get some posting going.

I just posted this in my LJ, and now I'll post it here. It's not snow leopard related, but it is something I thought I'd bring to your attention. Perhaps I just get easily upset.

I tire of things like this.Collapse )
